LudoLeist

LudoLeist – Methods of ludology for improving internal performance in startups and SMEs in innovation clusters

A research project of the EMF Institute at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, led by Prof. Dr. Avo Schönbohm, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research through the programme Research at Universities of Applied Sciences.

Project duration: 15/11/2014 – 14/11/2016

Project description:

1. Project objective

The aim of LudoLeist is to develop scientifically grounded and customizable models, methods and concepts for improving internal performance in startups and SMEs in innovation clusters, as well as to strategically support and further train founders and entrepreneurs. The main focus of the project group at HWR Berlin is the ludification of controlling (“Controlling as a Game”) with regard to performance-oriented motivation.

2. Work plan

Based on the reception of academic contributions from the interdisciplinary fields of business administration, especially human resources, controlling and entrepreneurship, and ludology, including sociology, game design and psychology, interviews and surveys are conducted with entrepreneurs and employees. The results
of both steps lead to the development of scientifically grounded recommendations, which are reviewed and adapted with regard to their practical suitability. In addition, the status quo of gamification in Germany is to be surveyed and made available in a publication.

3. Results

The dissemination of the results is planned through both print and online publications as well as information graphics. On the website www.gamification.business, the collected research content will be bundled, logically structured and made available to the public. In addition to the project’s own publications, specialist publications together with the research associates are planned. Guest lectures within the university consortium are intended to allow students to benefit from the expanded knowledge base. The ludification of selected courses is intended to demonstrate how the results can be practically integrated into teaching. The steering committee will ensure close integration with the practice partners within the cooperative network. Specialist lectures and the presentation of the results at practice-oriented and academic conferences will round off the dissemination of the results.
